Obama is Getting Railroaded by Congressional Democrats

Obama should realize that if the Stimulus Bill that will eventually be passed by Congress is a failure, his Presidency will be in jeopardy.  Yet so far, Congressional Democrats, most notably Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi are controlling the agenda, to Obama’s detriment.  In my Post Will Congressional Democrats Impose Their Will on Obama? (1/9/09), I warn that “[a]s a prerequisite to a successful Presidency, Obama needs to imprint his authority and personality quickly with his new office.”  Right now, Obama is failing in this regard in spectacular fashion.

I will not comment yet on the proposed stimulus until it is effected into law, but the wild spending and pork proposed by the House is becoming increasingly unpopular, and most are realizing that much of this spending will not impact the economy.  Obama needs to fix this Bill, using whatever tactics he can.

Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN), one of the 11 Democrats in the House that voted against the Stimulus Bill, was quoted as saying (he then unconvincingly “clarified” this statement): “Well, I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but I actually got some quiet encouragement from the Obama folks for what I’m doing [opposing Pelosi's Stimulus Bill].”   Whatever is the case, this is an utterly lame attempt by Obama to oppose that Bill.  For his own sake, he has to learn to do much better than this.
