A Trillion Dollar Disaster

Word has just come out that Zimbabwe has issued a 10 trillion dollar note, and will soon issue a 100 trillion dollar note.  I can go on and on about the disaster going on in Zimbabwe: Robert Mugabe dictatorship, inflation, health care disaster, poverty, wrecked economy, hopelessness, starvation, and so on.  One can easily find news articles about all this.  I do note a friend’s trip to Zimbabwe in 2007 and what he saw there.  See “A Quiet Genocide”   (http://worldcorrespondence.blogspot.com/2007/01/quiet-genocide.html#links).

One can only feel sorrow about the lack of world interest there is here or anywhere else in Africa (there is a war in the Congo, Somalia is still disintegrating, and so forth, but nobody knows about these things either).  We can all go into the multitudes of reasons few care, but maybe one day the “moralists” of the world can attempt to tackle real problems instead of yell and scream about the gimmick problem of the day.

With Barack Obama almost in office, with a Kenyan father, perhaps he can take further action to help Africa.  Whatever happens, Zimbabwe must be saved soon.
