I Got Invited to the 2009 Empire State Building Run-up, Yippie!
Well I got invited to the 2009 Empire State Building Run-up! This 86-flight stair race is the unofficial world championship of competitive stairclimbing, and athletes can only compete if invited. The top stair racers from all over the world fly to New York to compete, creating quite a spectacle among them. This will be my fourth Empire Run-up (my best time is finishing in under 16 minutes while the course record is 9 minutes, 33 seconds). About the race:
As an example of the extreme competitiveness of this race, see this insane video about the 2007 start from elite stair racer, Tim VanOrden (RunningRaw.com).
But then since this is an esoteric race, the question is whether we competitors are nuts! This video sure thinks so (and yes, the old guy was 93 and finished in less than 50 minutes)!
